Oyarsa's Observances

This blog is created for my random thoughts and opinions. Conflicting opinions are always welcome, but comments or remarks left in a disrespectful or distasteful manner (to be determined by myself) will be either ignored or deleted. This blog has a zero-tolerance policy for spammers. Don't waste your time, spammers, go elsewhere.

Name:

"Oyarsa" for those who don't know, is the name of an archangel (or "god" with a little 'g') in C. S. Lewis's Space Trilogy. I liked the character, so I stole the name. Who am I? I am a library science student in Illinois who has a variety of interests--too many to list! I have worked in libraries for five years and counting.

Are you a good person?

I am euphoric!

I took a class on Tolkien this Spring (those who know me in real life probably aren't surprised...) and received an incredible compliment on my final paper, a character analysis.

My instructor, one Mike Foster, the North American representative to the Tolkien Society, said that with "minor editing" it would be publishable. I am SOOO psyched!

Ahh..June...

the time when a young girl's fancy....

turns to her textbooks.

Yep, classes are in full swing again. Which means very little time to blog. It will, no doubt, provide some material for the occasional rant.

I'm taking a course in Public Relations, which, so far, entails the teacher and students spending 4 hours of a Saturday talking about everything under the sun BUT marketing, 1 hour at lunch, 1/2 hour of hurried discussion for a project, and then 1.5 hours of working on the project with our groups. I'm thrilled. Can you tell?

The other class is much better; it's organized, well-managed, efficient...yay! THe course is searching electronic databases, and because we actually practice what we learn and stay on task, I know I'm learning a LOT more in this class than in the other.
